Sensitive Material is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of video-art that is made in, or motivated by, the moving photographic image. Founded in 2007 by then-London College of Communication coursemates Joe Plommer, Matthew Blaney and Maxim Northover, it has organised artists’ video screenings, gallery exhibitions, and film nights.

Emerging from its founders’ need for responsive exhibition platforms for their own work as Photographers producing moving images, Sensitive Material acts as a structure to allow moving image makers to display their work in an environment best suited to the nature of the work.

Following Matthew’s move in early 2011 to Austin, Texas, Sensitive Material has been augmented by the addition of Sensitive Material Austin. A non-geospecific parent body, Sensitive Material - of which this website is the home - now oversees the work of both.
